I think if the position is remote within the country, then probably best is to either aim for the highest value within the country, or alternatively just look at where the HQ is located, that could be a good starting point for determining the salary discussion. Overall remote positions are really inviting, but also the competition is higher. In a few years we can see if this becomes the new norm to choose or not, because that might eliminate the need to think about money magnet areas, it will be more global.
